3.1 Device Introduction
3.1.1 The Device Concept
Devices in the KoiosLT platform are designed to work as a single instance defining a physical communication device. This instance is assigned to a licensed protocol. For this topic, a Device and a Device Instance are the same thing conceptually. For example, a user can add multiple instances of the same physical communication device (i.e. PLC, OPC-UA Server, ModbusTCP, etc) under a licensed protocol as needed, each with different properties assigned to each particular instance, (i.e. Scan rate, Security, etc.). It is from these device instances, that the communicated tags can be built. Tags can also be assigned to Device Sets, which is discussed in detail under the Tags section. For more details on device sets refer to Device Set Introduction.
3.1.2 Device Limits
There is currently no limitation on the number of devices / instances that can be assigned to the licensed protocol.
