What is a protocol?
Ai-OPs Koios software operates as an ethernet network device that communicates with a facility’s control system. This can be accomplished using a variety of communication protocols. A protocol is a set of rules and conventions that determine how data is transmitted and received over a network or between devices.
Supported protocols
In todays fast paced world, new communication protocols are constantly being introduced and old protocols are being discontinued. Koios currently supports the following communication protocols, but do not hesitate to reach out to Ai-OPs if you are in need of a more custom communication solution.
OPC-UA
OPC-UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) is an industrial communication protocol designed for secure, reliable, and platform-independent data exchange between industrial systems. It provides a standardized framework for connecting devices, controllers, and systems across various vendors and platforms in industrial automation. OPC-UA is becoming the gold standard for secure industrial communication.
Top Notch Security
Koios fully supports all supported OPC-UA security policies including Sign and Sign & Encrypt with Basic256, Basic256Sha256, and Basic128Rsa15 encryption. Koios also supports User Token authentication.
Ethernet/IP
EtherNet/IP (Ethernet Industrial Protocol) is an industrial communication protocol that operates over standard Ethernet and is widely used for real-time control and automation in industrial environments. It builds on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) to enable devices like sensors, controllers, and actuators to communicate over Ethernet networks.
Limited Support
Koios currently only supports Ethernet/IP communication with Allen Bradley controllers. Support for generic Ethernet/IP communication is slated for a future release.
SOAP
SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a protocol used for exchanging structured information in web services. It allows applications to communicate over a network, typically using HTTP or SMTP, by sending XML-based messages. SOAP is platform- and language-independent, enabling interoperability between different systems.
Limited Support
Due to the non-standard nature of most SOAP interfaces, Koios currently only allows for custom SOAP drivers to be made available or built upon request. The only drivers currently offered are:
RDM (Resource Data Manager)
Microsoft SQL
Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL) is a relational database management system (RDBMS) developed by Microsoft. It is designed to store, manage, and retrieve data as requested by various software applications, ranging from small systems to large-scale enterprise environments.
Read Only
Koios currently only support reading from a database.
Need something different?
Although a protocol may not be supported by us currently, Ai-OPs is more than capable of delivering a custom protocol capable of communicating with your control system. Ai-OPs also has experience using off-the-shelf protocol converters that can convert 100’s of industrial communication standards to a supported protocol such as OPC-UA.
